Martin County man arrested on statutory rape and sex offense charges

MARTIN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A Martin County man is facing charges after an extensive investigation into a reported sexual assault.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office says on May 5th, it received a report alleging that an underage girl was sexually assaulted by an adult man.

Deputies launched an investigation and identified 51-year-old Gregorio Gonzalez as the suspect.

Deputies got warrants to arrest Gonzalez on May 8th and took him into custody following a traffic stop with assistance from Williamston police.

Gonzalez was charged with three counts of statutory rape of a child less than 15 years old and one count of statutory sex offense of a child by an adult.

Warrants say the offenses span several years, dating back to October 2021.

He was taken to the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail, where he is being held without bond.
