POLICE: Camp Lejeune Marines caught ‘red-handed’ in Kinston mall break-in

KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - Four Camp Lejeune Marines were caught ‘red-handed’ in a break-in at a closed-down Kinston mall, according to police.

On Saturday, officers with the Kinston Police Department went to a report of four people breaking into the Vernon Park Mall on Hardee Road.

The caller advised that the suspects were defacing the building with paint.

Officers arrived and say they found 21-year-old Victor Torres and 20-year-old Angel Martinez with red paint on their hands and in possession of burglary tools.

Two other suspects, 20-year-old Joshua Son and 21-year-old Isaac Reyna, left the mall and ran toward the Caswell Center property, according to police.

With the help of a K9 and the Caswell Center Police Department, officers were able to arrest Son and Reyna.

Warrants show the men stole three metal signs and a sex education CD from the mall, valued at $150.

- Possession of Burglary Tools

- First Degree Trespass

- Injury to Property (2 counts)

- Resisting a Public Officer

- Carrying a Concealed Weapon

All four men are Marines and live on base at Camp Lejeune, police confirm. The command staff at Camp Lejeune was notified of the arrests.

The men remain in custody at the Lenoir County Jail under secured bonds.
