Overnight fire heavily damages Lenoir County home

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Fire heavily damaged a home early this morning in Lenoir County.

Lenoir County Fire Marshal Jake Turner says crews were called out around 2:10 a.m. to the home on Brookwood Road, west of Kinston.

He said an 80-year-old resident was awakened by smoke detectors, and was able to get out safely.

North Lenoir, Hugo, La Grange and Kinston firefighters battled the fire.

Turner says there was extensive fire damage to the second and third floors, while water damage to the ground floor.

He says there was no sign of lightning strikes in the area and the cause is being listed as undetermined.
