Brian Mastre is one of Omaha's most decorated journalists. He can be seen anchoring First Alert 6 newscasts Sunday-Thursday — 4pm, 5pm, 6:30pm, & 10pm. His in-depth reports air throughout the year as part of the First Alert 6 Investigations team.
Brian's a two-time Emmy Award winner for in-depth storytelling on Nebraska's death penalty debate and the difficulty of Nebraska law enforcement preventing Colorado marijuana from entering the state.
He's honored to be an 8-time Emmy nominee on a wide range of stories from the anniversary of the 1975 Omaha tornado to an exclusive behind-the-scenes examination of how investigators build a murder case against a prison escapee.
Brian is Omaha television's first winner of the prestigious National Edward R. Murrow Award for outstanding journalism for a long form report on the unique balancing act of aging and staying active, while keeping your sense of humor.
He's won 8 Regional Murrow Awards for his Investigative Reporting, Storytelling, and Writing.
Brian grew up in small towns across Iowa. Clear Lake is his hometown.
He graduated with a Speech Communications: Radio/TV degree from Southwest State University in Marshall, Minnesota. The college has since changed its name to Southwest Minnesota State University. It's there where he met his future wife Beth.
Before coming to Omaha, Brian worked as the evening news anchor at KIMT in Mason City, Iowa.
He lives in Omaha with his wife and son.
