(KYW) – Susan Young Browne is a celebrity in her own way.

One of the first members of the Modern Maturity Center, Browne has been visiting since 1973.

Inside the senior community center, Browne is likely the oldest.

“I’m over 100. A hundred and eight,” Browne said.

Browne is 108 years old and still joins group workouts three times a week. To prove her age, Browne even provided her driver’s license.

And yes, she still drives.

“They renewed my driver’s license until 2033,” Browne said.

Browne said her key to a healthy life is moving.

“When I get up in the morning, I get down on the floor and I have an exercise routine that I’ve been doing for the last 20 years,” Browne said.

Born in 1918 in Houston, Delaware, Browne grew up during segregation, helping her family on a farm without running water or electricity.

Browne later attended Delaware State College for Black students, and after graduating in 1945, she spent 30 years teaching children across Delaware, including in a one-room schoolhouse.

“When I retired and I walked around that classroom for 30 years, I am not going to sit down,” Browne said.

Browne has been married twice and is known for her sense of humor.

“I guess I’m not great material for men,” Browne joked. “That was enough. I’m not taking care of another man.”

Browne has a son, daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who are all lucky enough to enjoy her famous 7UP pound cake, but only on special occasions.

From her famous 7UP pound cake to her front-row seat at her 108th birthday party attended by more than 130 people, including Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer, Browne continues to make an entrance everywhere she goes.

“I grow old gracefully,” Browne said.

And for someone who has lived more than a century, what is the perfect birthday gift? Her very own reserved parking spot for drivers over 100.
