Foul play not suspected in inmate death at Neuse Correctional Institution
WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction says it does not suspect foul play after an inmate died at an eastern Carolina prison.
Officials say inmate Malik Hood died unexpectedly at Neuse Correctional Institution in Goldsboro on Sunday.
Hood was found unresponsive in his bunk around 4 a.m.
Corrections officials called for EMS, but the 28-year-old man was declared dead at the prison.
Law enforcement, including the SBI and the medical examiner’s office, is investigating, though foul play is not suspected.
The NC Department of Corrections is cooperating fully and is conducting its own investigation.
Hood was convicted in September 2024 in Mecklenburg County on firearms charges and speeding to elude arrest.
His projected release date was September 9th, 2026, according to officials.
