Greenville man pleads guilty to two stabbings and break-ins
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Pitt County court officials say a man who stabbed two people and broke into two homes plead guilty to the crimes in court today.
Aaron Smith was charged in two residential break-ins that happened last December in the College View Historic District, and two stabbings this past January.
On January 6th, police responded to ECU Health Medical Center for a person who had been stabbed in the area of East 10th Street. The victim said that this individual approached him in the Dollar General parking lot and asked for money. A day later, there was another stabbing victim at the hospital who reported he was stabbed while getting off the bus near Publix.
The victims all gave a similar description, which authorities also say matched camera footage from the area of the earlier break-ins.
Police identified Smith as a suspect and found him living in a tent in the woods off of Green Springs Drive behind the Dollar General on East 10th Street, where items reported stolen from the break-ins were discovered.
Thursday Smith pleaded guilty to two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and two counts of habitual breaking and entering.
He was sentenced to between 7 years and 6 months to 12 years in state prison.
