Highway 12 returning to seasonal speed limits

MANTEO, N.C. (WITN) - Highway 12 will return to seasonal speed limits today.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation says it will lower speed limits to 35 mph in areas like Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Corolla, and Frisco, down from 45 mph.

This also applies to parts of Cape Hatteras National Seashore near the Haulover Parking Lot.

NCDOT says they have been reducing speed limits on several sections of the highway to improve safety during the area’s peak travel season.

Off-season speed limits will return on Sept. 15.
