Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo! Project Cinderella provides free prom dresses for girls in need
GRIFTON, PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - For some high schoolers, prom is the most magical time of the year.
“I’m excited for it because I’m only in 10th grade,” says high schooler Madison Wallace.
But without a fairy godmother or hundreds of dollars, some don’t have the means to find the perfect dress, until... Project Cinderella.
“It’s great, it gives a lot of girls who, whether it be financial troubles or anything, it gives them a chance to find clothes they love at well, a very affordable price,” high schooler Kateri Blazer says.
Such an affordable price, that every dress, pair of shoes, and piece of jewelry is completely free.
“My whole life is always about giving,” Co-founder Cedrick Lee says, “so for them to come in, and actually find a dress, or find some shoes or other things to go with that dress for the prom, it means the world.”
Cedrick Lee founded Project Cinderella in 2017 with friends as a place for girls to donate their dresses after prom and give the dresses a chance to be re-worn and enjoyed.
“They’re really pretty and it’s kind of cool that they’re all free and stuff because sometimes dresses are like 200 dollars sometimes for a decent dress,” Madison Wallace says.
Girls shopping at the Project Cinderella event on Sunday say the right dress makes all the difference.
“I’m getting ready to try this one on because it’s really pretty and I like it a lot,” high schooler Mackenzie Royal says.
Because of Project Cinderella, they have the chance to say yes to the dress.
“It’s awesome to have the opportunity to get a really nice prom dress without having to toss out 200 dollars just for the dress,” Royal says.
Project Cinderella will be open Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for those that missed the chance to shop on Saturday.
The event is held at Old First Citizens Bank in Grifton and more information can be found at Project Cinderella on Facebook.
