NEWPORT, N.C. (WITN) - An Eastern Carolina town needs your help in tracking down suspects of recent cemetery vandalism.

Newport says eight headstones at Cedar Grove Cemetery on Mann Street were pushed over by vandals last week.

Town Manager Bill Shanahan says as the grave markers have withstood hurricanes, the damage could not have happened because of the weather.

He says this is the first time they’ve had vandalism at the cemetery in his two years with the town.

The town hopes someone can help them catch the vandals, and ask that visitors be aware and report any damage as soon as possible.

Police are asking anyone related to the families of Sanderson, Fulcher, Haskett, or Porter to contact them at (252) 223-5410.
