Work on new solar farm in Bertie County is set to begin Monday.
Fifth Third Bank and Sun Energy-One will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Monday afternoon to mark the start of construction for a new solar farm in Aulander. The ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. at 208 Joe Holloman Road.
The facility will create at least 1,000 jobs.
The solar farm will also generate roughly 194,000 mega-watt hours of electricity annually. According to both companies, that will prevent 144,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions, which is equal to emissions from more than 21,000 homes or 30,000 cars.
