Student charged with having gun on ECU campus
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - A student has been arrested after police say he had a gun on East Carolina University’s campus.
22-year-old Christian Perris was arrested Wednesday by the ECU Police Department.
Deputy Chief Chris Sutton tells WITN Perris is an off-campus student.
He says Perris was stopped for speeding and that he was driving on 10th Street before turning onto College Hill Drive.
Warrants show Perris had a concealed 9mm handgun in his possession on College Hill, which is on ECU’s property. Documents say the gun was found underneath the passenger’s seat with a round in the chamber.
Perris’ younger brother was in the passenger seat and they both denied there was a firearm in the car when asked, according to documents.
Sutton says the officer found out that the man’s license was suspended.
Perris was charged with having a gun on educational property and carrying a concealed gun. He was taken to Pitt County Detention Center, where he has since posted a $10,000 bond.
