MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WITN) - Morehead City is now looking for a new city manager after Chris Turner resigned today.

Turner’s resignation came after a closed-door special council meeting where personnel matters were to be discussed.

“This decision was made after careful consideration with my wife, with whom we are proudly expecting the birth of our third child, a son in April, and in continuing my urgent work with others that need consultation and capacity building,” Turner said in a statement. “As you know, the foundations of my career have answered that call from others who signal in need.”

Turner is a former Greenville police officer, assistant county manager in Carteret County, and interim town manager in Newport.

He came to Morehead City as interim manager in June 2022 after Ryan Eggleston was fired. Turner became city manager in January 2023.

His last day is tomorrow.

Assistant City Manager Daniel Williams will become the acting city manager while council discussed hiring an interim city manager.
