Grifton under boil water advisory after water leak
GRIFTON, N.C. (WITN) - A leak from a water main break at Church Street and Charles Street was fixed Tuesday night.
The break has caused some residents and businesses to see little to no water pressure throughout the day, but town officials say water pressure should now be back to normal.
Residents are being told to boil water for one minute when using for drinking, cooking, or making ice. Bottled water is a safe alternative.
“This is a precautionary advisory, so what that means is that we’re not saying that there is a contaminant, we are just advising that people do boil their water,” Dylan Haman, the town manager said.
The town says those with weakened immune systems, infants, pregnant women, and the elderly should consult a doctor before drinking tap water.
Residents say they will be taking precautions.
“I will be boiling water cause I have weakened immune system and then having dogs,” Amy Harris said. “We absolutely keep bottled water on hand at all times so definitely going to stock up on that just incase something else happens down the road.”
Grifton says the boil water notice will remain until tests show there’s no contamination in the water system.
