Fire crews gain the upper hand on Domtar paper mill fire in woodyard

MARTIN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Multiple fire departments responded to a fire at Domtar Plymouth Paper Mill Sunday afternoon.

The Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department says that the fire appears to have started on the wood yard chip conveyor and structures supporting it.

Responding crews include Jamesville Community Volunteer Fire Department, Williamston Fire/Rescue/EMS, Bear Grass Fire Department, and Washington and Tyrrell County EMS.

There have been no reported injuries and the main fire was put out before 2 p.m., according to Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department.

Washington County Emergency Management acknowledged the fire in a social media post intended for wood product suppliers.

“Domtar Plymouth will not receive any roundwood tomorrow, August 4 due to fire damage in the wood yard,” the post says.
