One person killed in Martin County crash

MARTIN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - State Highway Patrol troopers say one person was killed in an accident Thursday morning in Martin County.

It happened around 7:52 a.m. on Highway 17 and Ralph Taylor Road.

Troopers say 38-year-old Samantha Shepherd of Williamston was stopped at a stop sign on Ralph Taylor Road when she attempted to turn left onto Highway 17 and collided with a vehicle being driven by 39-year-old Rakimah Lopez, also of Williamston.

Shepherd was killed in the accident. Lopez suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

Troopers say no charges will be filed.
