Death certificate says Jacksonville woman was shot in head
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The death of one person at a Jacksonville apartment complex in January appears to have been a homicide.
WITN has obtained the death certificate for 23-year-old Maya Amarante.
Amarante’s date of death and address match the location where Jacksonville police say that two adults were found dead on January 19th at a unit at Charleston Place Apartments.
Amarante’s death certificate says her cause of death was a “gunshot wound of head” and that she was “shot by 9mm handgun by other person.” The manner of death is listed as a homicide.
A death certificate was not available at the register of deeds for the second person in this case.
WITN has reached out to Jacksonville police for more information.
Jacksonville police originally shared news of the investigation on January 20th.
They say that officers went to the apartment complex on January 19th around 2:30 p.m. for a welfare check and found two adults who lived in the apartment dead.
Police say the deaths are being investigated jointly with the NCIS.
