GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Families gathered in Greenville on Sunday to celebrate Mother’s Day with surprises and expressions of love.

Zachary Behrend, a Navy sailor stationed in Virginia, surprised his mother after not seeing her for two months.

“She loves it, it’s my favorite part, is not telling her when I’m coming so she just gets that little surprise. It always makes her day,” Behrend said.

Diedra Johnson said her daughter made her a card detailing the ways she has made her life better.

“She made this beautiful card for me. It was so long and detailed and just of all the ways that I’ve made her life better being her mom and all the things she appreciate about me and I thought it was the sweetest gift ever,” Johnson said.

Jamie Waugh recalled a memorable Mother’s Day when her husband and children gave her a hammock and placed it under trees in their yard.

“Funny thing they got my kids and husband got me this hammock and put it under the trees in our yard and I don’t know something about that day. I got flowers. He made me a card and said I was the bomb and had a bomb on it and for some reason, I can remember everything about that day,” Waugh said.

Alli Hall told WITN her mother gives her hugs and helps her feel better when she is upset. She’s excited to surprise her mom with her gift, but couldn’t disclose its contents because she was with her mom.
