Former Ayden police lieutenant, son sentenced for drug trafficking crimes
RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - Officials say a former police lieutenant in an Eastern Carolina town and his son have been sentenced for drug trafficking crimes.
U.S. Attorney Michael Easley, Jr. announced Tuesday that 52-year-old Charles Page and his son, 29-year-old Treyvon Page, have been sentenced for their drug trafficking crimes in 2021 and 2022.
Officials say Charles, who was a law enforcement officer with the Ayden Police Department during the time of his crimes, was sentenced to four years in prison.
Treyvon was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
“This police lieutenant, a 13-year veteran of the force, used his official position to access confidential databases and share intelligence to advance his son’s drug trafficking,” said Easley. “We won’t tolerate public officials breaching the public’s trust to help criminals, whether they are family or not. When law enforcement officers breach the public’s trust it undermines the rule of law and puts the entire community at risk. Many thanks to the FBI and the countless other honest officers who worked tirelessly to bring this scheme to light.”
According to court documents, back in July 2021, law enforcement learned that Treyvon was distributing cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and marijuana in Pitt County.
While investigating, law enforcement made 15 controlled buys of drugs from Treyvon between November 2021 and August 2022.
In 2022, surveillance showed Treyvon was visiting his father’s home in Grifton around the time of the controlled buys.
On September 20th, officials say law enforcement searched several homes in Pitt County including Charles’s house. There, officials say methamphetamine, cocaine, crack, and three shotguns were found.
Officials say interviews revealed that Charles knew about Treyvon’s drug trafficking and that Treyvon would often contact his dad for confidential law enforcement information about drug trafficking investigations.
Officials say Charles resigned from his position shortly after his home was searched.
Additionally, the investigation revealed that Charles queried Treyvon’s name and drug dealing associates across confidential law enforcement databases multiple times in violation of North Carolina law.
