Shyla Florence

Shyla Florence is the Digital Content Producer for WTAP. A Parkersburg native, she graduated from West Virginia University in May 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism.

During her college career, she interned with WBOY 12 News in Clarksburg and West Virginia Public Broadcasting in Morgantown. She also went on two study abroad trips with the Reed College of Media at WVU, where she visited Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, and China. Shyla was a sports writer for the Daily Anthenaeum, WVU's student newspaper, and a news reporter for the student radio station, U92 FM.

After graduating, she became a Digital Reporter/Weekend Digital Content Producer for WBOY in August 2020 before being promoted to Web and Content Manager. While at WBOY, she was awarded the Digital Content Influencer East Region award from Nexstar Media Group for covering a homicide arrest that impacted communities in two states. Her impact on digital turned the decently performing story into the top story for all West Virginia and Ohio sites.

After spending the last two years as a stay-at-home mom, Shyla has decided to return to her hometown and re-enter the career she loves. When she is not working, she spends time with her husband and two young boys.
