BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office will soon take over animal control operations.

The decision comes following a vote by county commissioners earlier this week.

According to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office, the department will begin preparing to take over operations in the coming days and is also accepting applications and conducting interviews for a senior animal control officer.

Anyone interested in applying can contact Capt. R. Soria at 252-794-5330 for an application.

The takeover comes after the shelter’s registration renewal was denied in July due to concerns over animal welfare.
