TEMPE, Ariz. (AZFamily/Gray News) - A 21-year-old Arizona man is facing charges after police say he hit a fire hydrant while doing donuts in his truck, causing more than $10,000 in damage.

Gabriel Haynes, 21, was arrested Sunday and faces charges of criminal damage for “recklessly damaging utility property.”

Tempe Police say Haynes was driving his pickup truck when he decided to start doing donuts. He apparently lost control of his truck and crashed into a fire hydrant.

A tower of water could be seen spraying from the hydrant, causing significant flooding in the area that impacted water lines, roads, sidewalks and front yards. The area was shut down for hours as crews repaired the water line.

Officials say Haynes caused more than $10,000 in damage. He was booked then released.

Damaging a utility is a felony in Arizona.
