Elizabeth City man pleads guilty in overdose death

PASQUOTANK COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - An Elizabeth City man pleaded guilty to reduced charges in an overdose death from nearly two years ago.

Pasquotank County deputies say Dontae Williams was originally charged with death by distribution. On Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

A judge sentenced Williams to six years, five months to eight years, nine months in state prison.

Jessica Modlin was found dead on July 2, 2024 on Egan Lane, outside of Elizabeth City. Deputies say the 29-year-old woman died from a fentanyl overdose.
