GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The web-based learning management system Canvas will be back online tomorrow for several Eastern Carolina school systems.

Pitt County Schools was one of many impacted last week when hackers got into Canvas and demanded a ransom.

Over the weekend, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction said a third-party cybersecurity firm reported Canvas was no longer showed signs of any compromise.

The state restored the statewide connection with Canvas around 4:00 p.m., while Pitt County says it will resume access at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday. A news release says the delay will allow the school system’s technology department to ensure a smooth transition back to the system.

Carteret County says it will reconnect to Canvas at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Several universities, including East Carolina University, were also affected by the shutdown.
