Lenoir County Courthouse closed after HVAC malfunction evacuation

KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - The Lenoir County Courthouse was evacuated Monday morning after an air conditioning unit malfunctioned and caused smoke to enter the building.

According to Sheriff Jackie Rogers, the incident happened around 8:30 a.m. when smoke spread through parts of the courthouse after the unit malfunctioned, prompting an evacuation of the building.

Officials say employees were sent home for the day.
