Man taken to hospital after shirt catches fire while cooking at Pitt County church community center

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A man was treated for burns after fire officials say his shirt caught fire while cooking at a Pitt County church’s community center.

Eastern Pines Fire-Rescue Chief Gary Arnold tells WITN that they were called to Eastern Pines Church Community Center just before 6 p.m. yesterday.

Fire officials learned that a man who was cooking spaghetti there reached over a burner on the gas stove to move a pot when his flannel shirt caught fire.

People who were at the center helped put out the fire.

Arnold says the man has some burns and was taken to ECU Health Medical Center for treatment.
