RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - The number of flu deaths in North Carolina surpassed 300 on Wednesday.
The Department of Health and Human Services says statewide flu deaths now stand at 301.
DHHS says that’s four more than reported last week across the state.
Deaths across the state peaked just after the holidays and have been declining since then.
So far this season, 235 deaths were people 65 or older, 42 between 50 and 64, 15 between 25 and 49, eight between 5 and 17, and one under 5.
Last season, 544 people died from the flu, the highest number since 2009.
