PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - The North Carolina Department of Transportation is moving forward with plans to widen a busy Pitt County road.

The NCDOT has awarded a 47-million dollar contract to Barnhill Contracting to expand about two-point-four miles of Allen Road in Greenville.

The project will take the road from two lanes to a four-lane, median-divided highway stretching from Stantonsburg Road to the Dickinson Avenue extension.

It also includes upgrades to both major intersections at Stantonsburg and Dickinson Avenue extension.

Construction could begin as soon as December first and the project is expected to be complete by late 2029.
