Greenville’s downtown construction project wrapping up this week
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Greenville’s BUILD Project is expected to be completed by the end of this week.
The nearly $42 million road reconstruction, streetscape, and greenway project began more than two years ago.
The intersection of South Pitt and West Fifth streets, the latest downtown street to be closed off, is expected to reopen to traffic by Friday, nearly two months earlier than originally planned, the city says.
The city and the Downtown Greenville Partnership will host a celebration to mark the finish on Friday, October 24th, at The State Theatre on West Fifth Street. The public event kicks off at 5:30 p.m.
The city says that while roadway construction along Fifth Street is wrapping up, there will be some supplemental roadway work and greenway improvements that remain to be completed.
Meanwhile, the North Carolina Department of Transportation continues on its Dickinson Avenue project. That work has been underway since 2022.
Crews say the end date for that project has moved from the summer of 2026 to, hopefully, late next month or early December.
