Deputies say woman tried to cash $21,000 counterfeit check

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A woman is in jail without bond after deputies say she tried to cash a $21,000 counterfeit check.

Pitt County deputies today arrested Takerian Phillips for obtaining property by false pretenses.

Back in May, deputies were contacted by the FBI in Ohio about the counterfeit check. They said evidence from the victim, Conway Land Title Company, Fidelity Bank, and the FBI was collected.

A warrant was issued for the 30-year-old Fountain woman on August 22nd, and deputies located her today.

Phillips will have her first court appearance tomorrow.
