WASHINGTON, N.C. (WITN) - A stretch of U.S. 264 in Beaufort County will close for several months beginning today.
At 8 a.m. today, U.S. 264 closed in both directions near Highland Drive as part of the City of Washington’s Medical District Stormwater Improvement Project.
The construction will allow crews to upgrade drainage structures under the highway.
The closure is expected to last 3 months, weather permitting.
Signs alerting drivers are posted, and a detour will take them to 15th Street to access either side of the closure.
People are advised to use caution when approaching the detour and plan ahead due to the longer-than-normal commute.
