Barry Weakens to a Tropical Depression in the Gulf

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - As of the 11 PM update, after reaching peak intensity, Berry has weakened to a tropical depression. Winds are near 35 mph, with gusts near 45 mph. Barry will continue to fall apart into a remnant low through the overnight hours. It will continue to impact portions of the Yucatan Peninsula and Mexico.

On the Pacific side, Flossie formed this Sunday as a tropical storm. It is expected to stay off the west coast of Mexico. It is forecasted to become a Category 1 storm by midweek, then weaken to a remnant low into the holiday weekend. Neither would pose a threat to the Carolinas.

The average date for the “F” named storm for the Pacific is August 3rd, which is ahead of schedule.
