Edgecombe County man arrested on child abuse charges

EDGECOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A man is facing child abuse charges after an investigation by Edgecombe County deputies.
The Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office says they began investigating a possible child abuse case on Friday and found that a child had been assaulted.
Not long after the investigation, deputies arrested 26-year-old Juan Carlos Matias-Lopez.
Matias-Lopez was charged with a statutory sex offense and was taken to the Edgecombe County Detention Center.
He is awaiting a judge to set his bond.
