Coast Guard searches Newport River for missing man
CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - The Coast Guard received a report of an unmanned boat that ran aground along Shellbank Road off the Newport River that showed signs of occupancy Friday afternoon.
Coast Guard officials say the Coast Guard Station Fort Macon coordinated with North Carolina Marine Patrol, who launched three small boats and had a fixed wing overflight to search for 67-year-old John Teeter of Newport.
After an extensive search including search patterns, shoreline searches, searches of adjacent waterways and drone flight searches, all of which yielded no results.
Coast Guard officials say the search was suspended pending further developments.
Station Fort Macon, Beaufort County drone teams, North Carolina Marine Patrol and North Carolina Wildlife all participated in the search.
