DUPLIN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Two people are dead after fire tore through an Eastern Carolina county home this morning.

First responders were called just before 5:30 a.m. to a home that was heavily engulfed in flames on South Williams Road in Duplin County, near Highway 24.

Crews from the Sarecta Fire Department, Beulaville Fire Department, Kenansville Fire Department, Potters Hill Fire Department, Duplin County Sheriff’s Office and Duplin County EMS initially responded to the fire.

Duplin County Emergency Medical Services says two victims were found inside the home while they were battling the fire. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Duplin County Fire Marshal’s Office was immediately called to begin investigating the fire. The North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal was also contacted.

Names of the victims nor a cause of the fire are not being released.
