State regulators find doors propped open at daycare where toddler wandered into traffic
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - State regulators say they have found more security issues at a Greenville daycare center where a child was able to wander out into a busy street two months ago.
The state Department of Health and Human Services has yet to release its findings into what happened to Marley Burgess at KinderCare back on August 13th.
The 3-year-old was found in the middle of Stantonsburg Road by a passing driver who stopped and got him to safety.
Records show since that happened, DHHS staff has made at least three unannounced visits to the daycare. On two of those, they found violations.
The latest violation was found on a visit last Wednesday. DHHS says during a food truck delivery, both the front door and the lobby door were propped open with no one supervising them.
During a September 24th unannounced visit, DHHS found a staff member sleeping while caring for children and that a photo was taken on September 17th. KinderCare said that teacher no longer was working at the facility.
DHHS has yet to say when its investigation into the child wandering off would be completed.
