14-year-old boy dies in New Bern shooting; two other teens charged

NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) - A 14-year-old boy who was shot in the chest yesterday near a Head Start center has died and two other teens have been charged with his murder.

New Bern police say Dior Simmons died from his injuries overnight.

The shooting happened on Harrison Street around 1:00 p.m. just behind the Duffyfield Child Development Center.

The childcare center went into lockdown as did several schools in the area.

Police say two 14-year-old boys have been charged with 2nd degree murder. One was arrested last night and the other this morning, according to police.

Both teens are in the Pitt County Juvenile Detention Center.
