Lifesaving emergency services are now closer to home for some eastern Carolina residents.

Greene County officials cut the ribbon on a new satellite EMS station near Walstonburg Thursday morning.

The new facility will be staffed around the clock with two EMT's and has room to expand as the need for services grows.

The new station features a full kitchen and living room area along with restrooms with showers, laundry facilities, and bedrooms that can house four emergency workers 24 hours a day.

Greene County Manager Kyle Dehaven says, "People who need emergency response or emergency transport will have an increased response time so that their chances of more serious injury or what not decrease."

The station has room for two ambulances, and crews will alternate 24 hour shifts on and off work.
