Inmate gets stuck in hospital walls while trying to escape custody, authorities say

PHOENIX (KPHO/Gray News) — A female inmate tried to escape a Phoenix hospital this week, but it didn’t go the way she planned.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was at the Valleywise Health Medical Center on Wednesday.

The inmate reportedly asked to use the restroom and ended up trying to use the opportunity to escape authorities by climbing into the ceiling.

It’s unclear how far she made it, but the sheriff’s office said the female inmate was found between two walls.

She was rescued and medically examined, the sheriff’s office said.

Hospital representatives thanked first responders for their quick response.

“We are grateful that the situation was resolved safely. We appreciate the swift response,” the hospital shared. “We maintain comprehensive emergency preparedness and security protocols designed to protect everyone in our facilities.”

The woman’s name was not immediately released, nor were the charges she might face.
