Middle school cheerleader dies in golf cart crash, authorities say

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (WSOC) — A middle school cheerleader was killed in a golf cart accident in North Carolina.

The Mooresville Police Department was reconstructing the accident in the residential neighborhood where it happened.

Police said several other children were on the golf cart when it crashed. No other vehicles were involved.

Neighborhood residents said it is common for teenagers to ride in golf carts in the area.

Julia Rooney was identified as the victim. Neighbors said she attended Woodland Heights Middle School and was involved in cheerleading.

A spokesperson for the school district said extra counselors were brought in to help students and staff after Julia’s death.
