GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - After a monster Junior season, Keyshawn Herring has shown he’s built for everything the ‘big moment’ has to throw at him.

Winning the 3A East Final last Friday in Minges Coliseum, Herring led all scoring, with 22 points, to punch a ticket to the State Championship.

The round before that, he played through intense pain from one of his wisdom teeth in the State Quarterfinals, and closed out the game with 14 second-half points in what ended up being a 2-point win.

Averaging 17 points per game, he leads the Cikings in that department, but Kinston Coach Perry Tyndall says his biggest leap this year has come defensively.

Playing for a program that is second all-time in North Carolina State Basketball Championships, his team plays Walkertown on Friday at 5 p.m. in Winston-Salem (LJVM Coliseum).
