Greene County celebrates grand opening of new inclusive park
SNOW HILL, N.C. (WITN) - A new park opened in Greene County today, and it’s one everyone can enjoy, no matter their abilities.
Officials gathered in Snow Hill on Tuesday morning to host the ribbon-cutting at the Greene County Recreation Complex.
Trillium Health Resources’ (THR) “Let’s Play Together” program granted $250,000 to create the county’s first inclusive public playground.
The program has served communities across North Carolina by building inclusive parks that all ages can use.
“It provides so much opportunity to children in the community to be able to play alongside together, regardless of their ability, and to just learn that empathy,” said Hayley Sink, THR senior vice president of community resources. “And not just for children, for their families, grandparents, veterans that may have disabilities, so they can play alongside their child.”
The park includes a rubber ground for better wheelchair access, sensory-friendly equipment, double-wide ramps, and a liberty swing designed for children in wheelchairs.
“It really touches my heart that it’s here in 2026. It’s a beautiful thing,” said event DJ John Ross.
This marks the 40th park in the state to receive grant funding from Trillium.
