72-year-old woman dies after being hit by car in church parking lot

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO/Gray News) – A 72-year-old woman in Ohio has died from her injuries after she was hit by a car driven by a 90-year-old woman in a church parking lot.

The accident took place at 12:05 p.m. Sunday at St. Francis de Sales Church in Coventry Township.

Firefighters responded to the crash and took the victim to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Summit County Medical Examiner said the victim was identified as Maria Murawski.

Officials said the 90-year-old driver was behind the wheel of a 2017 Buick SUV.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Department said charges are pending as the Summit Metro Response Team handles the investigation.

The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland released a statement addressing the incident.

“On Sunday, Jan. 11, a St. Francis de Sales parishioner was hit by a car in the parking lot after church and later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital,” the statement said. “The staff of St. Francis and their entire church community are heartbroken by this terrible accident. They and the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland invite everyone to keep all those impacted by this tragedy in their prayers.”
