D.A. rules Elizabeth City officer acted lawfully in excessive force complaint

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WITN) - District Attorney Jeffery Cruden has reviewed a complaint of excessive force against Elizabeth City Police Officer Douglas Lane and determined his actions were lawful.

The complaint, first filed on Sep. 19, came after a video of the alleged situation surfaced online.

The Elizabeth City Police Department says it will continue handling the complaint internally.

Chief Eddie Graham says he has reviewed the report and video and is investigating the situation with internal affairs.
