NCDMV offers online level 3 license upgrade for teens

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WITN) - The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles has rolled out an online option for eligible teen drivers to upgrade from a Level 2 Limited Provisional License to a Level 3 Full Provisional License.
Previously, teens eligible for a Level 3 license upgrade were required to go in person.
The DMV says the online upgrade involves two steps: one completed by a parent/guardian and the other completed by the teen.
Governor Josh Stein signed Senate Bill 245 in September, allowing more online renewals.
“Parents and teen drivers no longer have time off work or school for a simple upgrade. It’s now available at their fingertips online,” NCDMV Commissioner Paul Tine said. “This builds on our recent online renewal expansions enabled by Senate Bill 245 and keeps us moving toward becoming an exceptional customer service organization.”
The DMV has already rolled out online renewals for both non-REAL ID and REAL ID licenses last month.
The goal of switching online is to reduce the number of in-office visits and make the renewal process quicker.
