‘Growth is good’: Judco Manufacturing to bring new jobs to Greene County
SNOW HILL, N.C. (WITN) - It’s not every day that a California-based manufacturing company chooses to put down roots in a small town like Snow Hill, but for residents, that decision feels like a win for the community.
“That’s great news,” said John Hunt, a Greene County resident. “I think it’s important for growth. I mean, anytime a company comes in and wants to invest in a county. Snow Hill is a small township, and the county is small. But, you know, we need stuff over here, instead of spending our money in Kinston, Goldsboro, or Greenville.”
Judco Manufacturing, a third-generation family-owned company based in California, will relocate its headquarters to a building on Carolina Drive in Snow Hill.
The company will bring 60 jobs and $5.3 million to move its research and development operations to Greene County.
The move was announced on Wednesday by Gov. Josh Stein.
“I am excited to welcome Judco Manufacturing to Greene County,” said Governor Stein. “When companies that have a global footprint are looking for growth opportunities, North Carolina will continue to be the clear choice because of our manufacturing strength across all industries, our talented workforce, and our well-connected transportation network.”
Average salary for the new jobs will be $44,001, according to the governor’s office, above the average wage of $39,698 for Greene County.
Tyler Davis, a manager at the NAPA automotive shop in Snow Hill, says the new company will bring more traffic to the business.
“I think it’s amazing,” he said. “This will benefit everybody and put more money into the economy here. It will definitely give us more business and opportunities.”
Hunt says the new development will bring much-needed expansion to the county for residents, businesses, and future generations to come.
“The town is growing to have better-paying jobs and a future for our kids, so I think growth is good,” he said.
To help the company relocate, the state will give them a $125,000 performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund.
