Driver arrested in Wayne Co. 160 mph high-speed chase ending in Duplin Co.
WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A high-speed chase that started in Wayne County ended with the vehicle crashing in Duplin County on Sunday.
The NC Highway Patrol says around 5:15 pm, a 2015 Dodge Charger was traveling with two passengers southbound on NC 111 at 90 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Trooper Price says a chase with a top speed of 160 mph continued on NC 903 toward Kenansville and ended on Summerlins Crossroads after the driver hit a bridge.
He says the car caught on fire after a Duplin County highway patrol officer applied stop sticks to the road causing it to crash.
Price says the driver and other passengers were able to safely exit the vehicle and were later cleared by EMS.
Authorities say for various reasons they are still trying to positively identify the driver who was arrested and transported to the Wayne County jail.
