JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - A death certificate says a Camp Lejeune Marine whose wife was found dead last month shot and killed himself.

It took Jacksonville police more than two weeks to release the names of Lance Corporal Dariel Amarante and Maya Amarante. Police said their deaths were domestic-related, but told us any other information would have to come from NCIS.

The two were married and lived in an apartment at Charleston Place Apartments. Their bodies were found on the afternoon of January 19th.

His death certificate filed yesterday says the 22-year-old Marine shot himself in the head with a 9mm handgun. It lists the manner of death as a suicide.

The woman’s death certificate said she was the victim of a homicide, having been shot in the head as well.

The Marine Corps says Amarante was a rifleman, assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marines and enlisted on April 26th, 2021.
