DEPUTIES: Man shoots, kills another man after being asked to leave Greene Co. home
GREENE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A man is facing a murder charge after deputies say he shot a man during an argument at a home.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office says that Emmanuel Williams, 40, has been charged with an open count of murder in the death of Melvin Hawkins, 62.
Deputies went to Royce Drive around 12:10 a.m. today to investigate a shooting in the Jason area of the county.
There they found that Hawkins, who lives at the home, had been shot several times and that the shooter had left. Hawkins was taken to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville where he died.
Witnesses told deputies that Hawkins and Williams were together in the home and that there was an argument when Hawkins told Williams to leave. During the argument, witnesses told deputies that Williams shot Hawkins and left the scene.
Deputies were still at the scene when they say Williams returned and was suffering from cuts.
Williams was taken to UNC Wayne Memorial Hospital where he was treated. He was arrested on an order for arrest for failure to appear on traffic violations.
After reviewing evidence, Williams was later charged with Hawkins murder and is being held at the Greene County Detention Center without bond.
