HIGHWAY PATROL: Four killed in Wilson County crash on US 301
WILSON COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - WRAL reports four people are dead Thursday after a fiery, head-on crash in Wilson County.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 4:49 p.m. on U.S. Highway 301 at Mobley Road near Lucama.
Authorities said the crash involved two cars. The state’s investigation found one car was going north and the other was going south on U.S. 301. The cars collided head one and one of the cars caught fire after impact, according to the State Highway Patrol.
The state said the other car overturned and traveled off the right shoulder of the road after the collision.
Each car had two people in them and all four people involved died, the state said. Authorities are working to confirm their identities.
The cause of the crash is currently unknown. NCDOT says U.S. Highway 301 at Mobley Road has now reopened after being closed since just after 5 p.m.
